Air Conditioning

  • Check that the air filter is not dirty and replace if necessary.
  • Check that there are no blockages in the return-air or air supply-air grill.
  • Make sure that furniture, boxes, etc. are not obstructing air flow.
  • Check that the room thermostat temperature selector is set below the house temperature as indicated on the thermostat and the system is in the “COOL” position. WARNING To avoid short circuiting the compressor, do not turn the thermostat on, off and back on immediately. Wait a few minutes.
  • Check the blower access panel. It must be firmly in place for the unit to operate.
  • Check that the furnace power supply is “ON”.
  • Check that the outdoor unit power is “ON”.
  • Check the circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker.

Heating

  • Check that the air filter is not dirty and replace if necessary.
  • Check that there are no blockages in the return-air or air supply-air grill.
  • Make sure that furniture, boxes, etc. are not obstructing air flow.
  • Check that the room thermostat temperature selector is set above the house temperature as indicated on the thermostat and the system is in the “HEAT” position.
  • Check the blower access panel. It must be firmly in place for the unit to operate.
  • On gas furnaces equipped with electronic ignition, turn room thermostat “OFF”. Wait five minutes then set the thermostat back to “HEAT” to reset the ignition system.
  • Check that the furnace power supply is “ON”.
  • Check that the outdoor unit power is “ON”.
  • Check the circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker.
  • Read the start instructions on the side of the furnace.
